Singer Mariah Carey has checked herself out of a Connecticut clinic where she was recovering after suffering an emotional and physical breakdown last month, The Associated Press reports.

Cindi Berger, Carey's spokeswoman, told the Daily Newson Wednesday that the singer was feeling much better and was staying at an undisclosed location with her mother.

Carey, 31, is still under a doctor's care.

Berger also denied that the singer attempted suicide after Carey emerged from an emergency room on July 25 with bandages on her wrist. She said that Carey had broken some dishes and glasses.

After her breakdown, Carey canceled all public appearances, including the MTV 20th Anniversary bash on Aug. 1.

Carey recently completed work on two movies, Glitter and Wise Girls and wrote, recorded and produced her newest album, the soundtrack to Glitter.

She also reportedly broke up with her boyfriend, Latin singer Luis Miguel, before she was hospitalized.

The premiere of Glitter has also been delayed one month to Sept. 21. The album of the same title will be available on August 21.

Before her breakdown, the singer left several ominous messages on her Web site complaining of being overworked and not receiving enough attention from her record label.

Mariah Carey's new album Glitter has been pushed back to Sept. 11, Reuters reports.

The album was originally slated for an Aug. 21 release.

Earlier this week, Carey left a Connecticut clinic where she was recovering after suffering a nervous breakdown last month. She is currently resting at an undisclosed location with her mother.

Glitter also is the soundtrack to her new film of the same name. 20th Century Fox delayed the opening of the film to Sept. 21, possibly as a result of Carey checking herself into hospital. The film, marking Carey's starring debut, was originally slated for release on Aug. 31.

Virgin Music Group vice chairman Nancy Berry said in a statement that Carey is making great recovery progress and that Virgin Music Worldwide is committed in supporting her on every level.

In April, Virgin signed Carey to a five-album contract reportedly worth over $100 million. According to Virgin, the singer has sold 150 million albums and singles worldwide throughout her 11-year career.

Her first single from the new album, Loverboy, was ignored by radio stations when it was released in June. The single shot up the chart after Virgin made it available at retail at a sharply discounted price.

It seems Mariah Carey's month-long hiatus from the world was not enough.

The pop singer, who was admitted to a Connecticut clinic in July after suffering a nervous breakdown, has reportedly suffered a relapse.

According to the New York Daily News, Carey, 31, was admitted Tuesday to UCLA Medical Center. Hospital officials, however, would not confirm that Carey is a patient there.

Carey's spokesperson Cindi Berger issued a "no comment" when asked about the singer's hospitalization.

Carey had reportedly been staying at the exclusive Bacara resort in Santa Barbara last week, where she signed autographs and was seen eating breakfast at one of the spa's cafes.

"She has had an emotional setback," the newspaper quoted an unidentified music industry source as saying. "She had been meeting with executives at Virgin Records, and apparently she simply wasn't ready for that."

On Wednesday, Carey postponed an ABC television interview with Barbara Walters on the show 20/20, which was set to air Sept.12. Berger said in a statement that Carey "needs more time to rest."

The singer and actress also canceled a Sept. 14 appearance on The Tonight Show to promote her upcoming movie Glitter.

Carey was released from the Silver Hill rehabilitation facility in New Canaan, Conn. on Aug. 7 after undergoing two weeks of treatment for a nervous breakdown. Two days later, Virgin Records announced it was delaying the release of her new album.

Glitter, which doubles as a soundtrack for the movie of the same name, was pushed back to Sept. 11. The album was originally slated for release on Aug. 21.

20th Century Fox has also postponed the opening of the film Glitter by three weeks to Sept. 21.
